Eid Mubarak to every Afghan family, wherever you are today.
Today is Eid al-Adha , Bakra Eid. It is one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar, and for millions of Afghan families it is a day of prayer, gathering, sacrifice, and shared meals. It is a day that belongs at home.
Not every Afghan student is home today. Some are in Pune. Some are in Mumbai, Nagpur, Sangli, Kolhapur, and cities and towns across Maharashtra, studying the courses they chose and building the futures they are working toward. They are far from the morning prayers at home, from the smell of the kitchen, from the faces of the people they love most. But they carried Eid with them when they left, and it is with them today.
This post is for them , and for every Afghan family thinking of a son or daughter who is studying far away.
"Today is Bakra Eid and I am here, far from home. I am thinking of my mother and my father this morning. I am thinking of Ghor , the mountains, the morning, the smell of the house on Eid day. I am not there. But I am not forgetting. You are in my heart today."
Being Far From Home on Eid
Every Afghan student who has spent an Eid away from their family knows what this day feels like. The day starts a little quieter than it should. The Eid prayer is attended , in Pune, in Mumbai, in whichever city the student is in , but the congregation is not the one from home. The phone is checked more than usual. The voice calls feel important in a way they do not on ordinary days.
And yet. The students are here because they chose to be here. They chose a course, searched fn.mahacet.org, applied directly, arrived in Maharashtra, and began building something. That choice did not erase home. It added a second place where their life is happening. Eid is the day when both places are felt most strongly at once.
To every Afghan student in Maharashtra today , you are not alone. There are others like you in this state, in this country, marking this day from the same distance. Eid Mubarak to all of you.
To Every Afghan Family at Home Today
If your son or daughter is studying in Maharashtra today , in Pune or Mumbai or Nagpur or Sangli or any of the other cities where Afghan students are building their educations , they are thinking of you today. Eid has a way of making distance feel very precise.
The choice they made to study far from home is a choice about the future , their future, and the future of what they can contribute when they return. It is a hard choice to live with on days like today. It is also a meaningful one.
Eid Mubarak to every Afghan family. May this day bring peace to your home and joy to your table.
