The Document Checklist Thai Students Must Have Before Applying to Maharashtra (2026 Guide)

Every year, we process thousands of applications from international students across 37+ countries on the official Maharashtra Foreign National admissions portal - fn.mahacet.org. And every year, we see the same pattern: brilliant, motivated students from Thailand arriving at the final stages of their application - only to be delayed, deferred, or disqualified because of one missing document.

This guide exists to make sure that doesn't happen to you.

If you're a Thai student planning to pursue an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Maharashtra - whether that's Engineering (B.E./B.Tech), MBBS, MBA, Pharmacy, or any of the 50+ professional courses available - your document checklist is not the same as Indian domestic students. This distinction matters. The fn.mahacet.org portal is specifically designed for Foreign Nationals, NRI, OCI, PIO, CIWGC, and Merchant Navy candidates. Thai students fall under the Foreign National Student (FNS) category, and the documentation requirements are unique to that path.

Here is the complete, verified document checklist for Thai students applying through Maharashtra's official admission portal.

1.  Mathayom 4 and Mathayom 6 Marksheets (Grade 10 & 12)

These are your primary academic qualification documents. You must submit original marksheets for both Mathayom 4 (Grade 10) and Mathayom 6 (Grade 12). If your marksheets are issued in Thai, you are required to obtain official English translations certified by a recognised authority. Your admission eligibility is assessed based on your performance in these documents, so accuracy and completeness are non-negotiable.

2.  Valid Passport or National ID

Your passport must have a minimum of 6 months' validity at the time of application. You will need to submit both a soft copy (scanned, clear) and the original at the time of physical verification at your chosen college. A blurry or partial scan is a common reason for application holds - avoid it.

3.  Passing Certificate or Provisional Certificate

Your marksheets alone are not enough. The portal also requires a Passing Certificate or Provisional Certificate issued by your school or examination board, confirming successful completion of Grade 12. This document is separate from your marksheets and is often overlooked. Missing this is one of the top reasons Thai applications are put on hold.

4.  Migration Certificate

The Migration Certificate officially records that you have been released from your previous institution and are eligible to enrol elsewhere. No migration certificate means processing delays - without exception. Request this document from your school well in advance, as processing times can vary.

5.  Birth Certificate

A certified copy of your birth certificate is required to verify your identity, age, and nationality. If the document is in Thai, an official English translation is required -the same standard applies here as with academic documents.

6.  Passport-Size Photographs and Signature Scan

These are often treated as afterthoughts - but they matter. Your application requires recent passport-size photographs with a white background and a clear scan of your signature in the specified format. An outdated photograph or a smudged signature scan can trigger a correction request that delays your timeline.

7.  AIU Eligibility Certificate (If Required)

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) Eligibility Certificate is not required for every applicant, but if the portal flags your qualification for review, submitting this document is mandatory. Skipping it when required results in immediate disqualification. You can verify whether you need this by checking your eligibility category directly on fn.mahacet.org.

Before You Submit - Verify Everything on the Official Portal

Do not rely on third-party checklists as your sole reference. Admission requirements can be updated. Always cross-check your document list against the official portal at fn.mahacet.org before submitting your application.

The portal also features a Student Category Check tool that helps Thai students confirm their exact category and corresponding requirements. If you have questions, the CET Cell helpdesk is reachable at student@mahacet.org or on the helpline numbers listed on the portal.

Why Maharashtra Is Worth Getting Right

Maharashtra offers Thai students access to 200+ colleges and 50+ professional courses, with engineering degrees starting from as low as $5,000-$18,000 - a fraction of equivalent programs in Thailand or Western countries. Degrees from AICTE-approved Maharashtra colleges are internationally recognised, and a growing network of Thai alumni in leadership roles adds real post-graduation value. Direct flights from Bangkok to Mumbai get you to campus in 3-5 hours.

Your documents are not a formality. They are the foundation of your application. Get them right - and everything else follows.
